PCI slot Doesn't register

My PCI slot (no. 3) won't interface with a device.

The computer recognizes there's somethign there if you go into control panel, but doesn't know where to find it, use it, or anything else with it. Sometime it doesn't even pick the device up.

I discovered this while installing a TV Tuner, and it not working, so I switched my sound card and the tuner (becasue I had suspected the slot).

The Tuner began to go through ll of the instllation stuff, adn I installed it successfully, so I fiutred it was some quircking thing my comp decided to do. Then I tried to play some music, to make surre that it wa all fine. Windows Media Player twigged out, and littl ornage exclamation points appeared next to all the songs, and I got a popup telling me it couldn't find a sound device.

Summary
Tried to install tuner
Realized PCI slot won't work
Tells me there is something there, but it can't be used

Thanks all

This is possible but pretty rare. Do you know how to go into your BIOS? You can find some info on what cards are in your computer in there.

hmmm..
ya...

You want me to see if they register int here, right?

They don't, or I can't find them
It's not anywhere in the BIOS/CMOS menu
It doesn't evn list the PCI expansion (ie sound card in slot 1) cards

I have AwardBios by Pheonix

MM, it was, I did it a couple times just to makes sure (that's take it out, put it in, and tests it)

the thing is, I can get the things to register in one slot, but not the other
So I figure that it's not the way I'm putting it in

There might be setting on that slot out of whack in the BIOS. Try resetting that submenu to default settings. Worst case is to reset the whole BIOS to defaults.
