PCI Slot Cooling

I have a few empty PCI slots in my case where I have removed the metal panel for some long forgotten SCSI or sound card or something. I have been wanting to increase cooling in my system to enable me to overclock my video card a bit more. I am considering one of these jobbies. I also want to keep temps down to lengthn my hard drive lifespans.

PCI Case Cooler

PCI Directional Fan

PCI Slot turbine cooler

Are they worth the effort?

In my case (with an 8800GTX), I don't think I'd be comfortable running without a slot cooler below it after seeing the difference it makes. Especially with video cards that don't exhaust heat directly out of the case (or, in my case, not all of it), an exhaust there makes a hell of a difference (lowered my idle temps by 7-9C). Not sure if it'd make a huge difference with cards that run cooler, however, as I've never actually tried.

While I see in nVidia's driver package that 134 C is supposed to be acceptable, I don't like even 90-plus. When playing Oblivion and NWN2, my cards will his 95 C, given half a chance. For the X800 XT-PE, I bought an Antec Vcool and flipped the fan around to move additional air into the fan shroud and onto the heat sinks. I never saw more than 80-81 afer that. Right now, I wish I could see the in-game temps for a Geforce 6600 GT that I occasionally play NWN2 with, and I think it wants to run hotter than I prefer.

BUT if NV Tweak will still put the number in the game screen the way that Coolbits did, I can't find the menu item for it !

Anyone remember how to make that work?

PCI Slot Turbine cooler.

Yeah, that doesn't sound like it will be loud at all!

What are you trying to accomplish, anyway? Sucking air through a small space at high velocity is bound to suck donkeh bllz from a noise standpoint. What needs this cold air so badly? My overvolted 7900GT doesn't require this kind of cooling. What is the problem that your vid card is dying for fresh air that your front intake fan can't provide it?

They actually aren't THAT loud... granted I have mine running at ~50%, but it still moves a good amount of air.

What card do you have? You could always buy a Zalman VF900 for your crad which is an excellent HS.
