Question PCI-->SATA vs nVme-->SATA

I am needing to add more SATA ports to a computer. I have two available PCI slots and two available M.2 nVme slots.

Is there any advantage to using one of these adapters over the other? I know there are limited data lanes, will one of these options limit the speed differently than the other?
 
The NVME slots are x4 so assuming you use an x4 PCIe adapter I would think speeds would be the same. Check your motherboard manual to see if using one of the NVME or PCIe slots disables any of the on board SATA ports. Only reason I can think to use one over the other is simply what fits best in your case. If the PCIe adapter would block something like a video card fans or interferes with a sound card or capture card then perhaps the NVME adapter would be better.
 
Given we're talking about storage, I would prioritise on which adapter is the most mature product on the market. After all, data needs to reach its destination without corruption if it is to be of any use.
