PCI Raid Card or Raid on Motherboard?

bad-ass

Any suggestions of a PCI Raid Card? Or should I go with a controller on the motherboard? Seems like it would be a little cheaper going for the PCI if you have the slots.

Performance wise, there is no difference since onboard RAID controllers can connect nowhere but the PCI bus either. The main drawbacks of onboard I/O are (1) you can't move it to your next system, (2) should it ever need a BIOS update, you're at the mercy of the mainboard maker to release one, while with a PCI card you can update yours to whatever the RAID chip maker releases.
