PCI problem with ECS K7S5A motherboard

Nitemare

Lifer
Does anyone know of a fix for this problem? I did a search on the net and there seems to be alot of problems.

Details are..you put a pci card in and you lose your display..everything appears to boot properly, but your computer and monitor don't talk to one another. I've had the success of putting in a usrobitics modem and having it boot properly. The only problem is it will not work or detect at all. I've opened a ticket with ECS, and have a ticket number, but they seemed less than knowledgable of any fixes when I spoke to them over the phone. So the bottom line is I have 2 56k modems laying on the floor unusable, a machine that is running sweetly albeit neutered because of the lack of internet. I'm going to flash the bios and cross my fingers, but I did not really see anything in the bios updates that addressed this problem.

Bumps and help greatly appreciated

It could be your videocard. Try another one.
Some ppl had to use PCI videocard to get system going,
then switched to AGP card when everything was set up.

If you dont have spare videocard around at least switch to VGA mode and go from there.
Also disable in BIOS everything you can, like onboard audio and LAN, parallel and serial ports etc.

It isnt the video card.

I had this same problem with Netgear FA312 NIC's that I was installing in some PC's I was building.

I replaced them with 3com NIC's and it works just fine. Dont kwow what it is about the K7S5A, but I have four PCI cards in my config at home with the same mobo, and it works fine.

I guess it is something to do with IRQ allocation or something with certain PCI cards.

It sucks. I for one will not be buying ECS again. I'll stick with Abit or Asus.

Have you tried swapping the video card to different slots? The K7S5a ca be finiky. I still love it tho 🙂
