I have installed a SIIG Cyberparallel PCI card into my system so that I no longer will have to use a switch box to go between my printer and scanner. Whenever I boot up, the card is inoperative. If I go into device manager, there is always a red "x" over the Cyberparallel device under the Ports icon. To get it to work all I have to do is to click the refresh button in device manager. The red "x" goes away and the card works perfectly.
I have gone to SIIG's web site and followed their insturctions.
SIIG's red "x" problem in Win ME link
Since those instructions did not work I contacted SIIG and all they could tell me to do is to rearrange my PCI cards. I have tried the card in my two open slots, 1 with IRQ 5 (PCI - slot 2) and 1 with IRQ 9 (PCI - slot 4) resulting in the same problem.
PCI slot 1 is not usable since I am using an AGP card. PCI slot 6 is inaccessible since I am using an ISA card. Rearranging my cards doesn't seem logical to me and I am going to save that as a last resort. It seems to me like this is an issue of Win ME not picking up the driver and not an IRQ problem.
If anyone has any experience with this type of problem, any information you can give will be greatly appreciated.
My system contains:
AMD Athlon 800
Abit KA7-100
256 MB PC133 SDRAM
ATI All in wonder 128 32MB (AGP)
Soundblaster Live! Value (PCI - slot 3)
Supra express 56K modem (PCI - slot 5)
No name FM radio card (ISA - slot 7)
Windows ME
