PCI modem for K7S5A??

I have heard stories that alot of PCI modems will cause alot of problems with the K7S5A.

Can anyone reccomend a modem that does work with this motherboard and Windows 2000. Will one of those $15 AMR modems off eBay work in the AMR slot?

I have used both Diamond supra and zoom pci moderns with this motherboard with no problems

I see, after reading the newegg reviews, it seems the modem that has a problem is a creative blaster.

Can someone recommend a modem to order for my new system, any hot deals right now?

I use the pc-tel AMR modem on my K7S5A, works as well as any win modem I've tried, and saves a pci slot.

I just set my K7S5A board up using a U.S. Robotics 56K PCI modem. No problems to date.

i am using a Diamond supra express External serial port 56k,and it connects at 115.2 using XP
with this mboard🙂

I've used both an Actiontec CW 56k and a USRobotics 56k PCI OEM with my K7S5A. Both are hardware modems and you can the USR one over at newegg.com.

The Creative modem is software based so I'm not surprised that there might be some problems with some systems. It depends on what else you have installed with it.

I have a Diamond SupraMax modem running in PCI slot 4 with no problems. It works okay, but the cheap Lucent winmodem in my 3 year old unit always connects at 48k whereas this one seldom goes over 28.8. Even tried forcing a higher connect speed. No luck.

here is a funny one...I use ambient/ intel pci modems...I get them at www.tcwo.com for like 17.00...I get fast connections of 49333 with them on my home line when I usually only connected at 45333 with older isa modem blaster. I had to upgrade to pci modem since ecs board has no isa slots.

Just did new build K7s5a & 1.0 Duron with a USR 5699 Winmodem. Having a problem with USR modem.
It refuses to connect the first time after a cold boot but will connect on second attempt. It then works
first time ok until I do a cold boot. Same problem again. Any Ideas? Other than that system seems
stable.🙁
