I will soon be building a home linux box which will be running folding@home, light webserver, FTP, maybe some shoutcast. My main goal for this is for the comp to be as silent as possible. So a friend is offering me his GeForce 2 MX 400 64mb PCI card for $20 (new in box with out a fan and only a heatsink). Now on the computer, the only other cards in the PCI slots will be network and audio.

Now my question is, will having the PCI video card bog down my computer (specifically the network card)?

If it's just going to be sitting idle - why would it? :p

As long as you don't start playing intense 3D games on your server, you'll be just fine. :)

Edit - just noticed the "Folding@Home" bit. On the 3D note, run the command-line version so you don't get the aforementioned lagging.
