PCI express

Forgive my stupidity, but I'm still in the old school with AGP slots. I understand the PCI express system and that the x16 is used for graphic cards. My question is, I see many new MB with x1 slot and I have no idea how it can be used. Anyone care to enlighten an old gizzer??

There are a few video cards (I think Matrox makes one) that have a PCIe x1 connector; they are mostly useful for extra monitors that don't need 3D acceleration. Firewire and USB controllers are also available in PCIe x1, and there may already be other things out (I seem to recall seeing a PCIe TV tuner).

Reds, ya coulda searched cause there's a similar thread asking about pci-x1 and x4 😛. o well though, the thread's already made
