Anybody know when the first round of PCI Express video cards are coming out?

considering Intel is going to do away with the AGP slot pretty soon apparently

ATI said they'll be shipping PCI Express cards as soon as PCI Express motherboards are available.

According to Xbit-Labs, Asus has a 939 pin board that will most likely be coming out in March. It has PCI-Express on it, but only x16 and not x1, so it can't be too long after that for the cards; at least I hope. Article

is there any speculation or tests as to the actual performance difference between AGP 8x vs. PCI Express?

I speculate that it's not any faster except for situations where AGP texturing is necessary. There was another thread that showed it was slower but I'm sure that's because of the beta hardware.

I don't think the slot change will make any difference in performance difference for the crards its just a future proof upgrade I think.

The Anantech article said that performance improvements will be negligible when PCI express is initially implemented.
