during this week unless any unforesable problems, i will be building my first pc with pci-express. my preliminary setup will include the a8n-sli mobo and the 3200+ 90nm cpu.

my problem is trying to find a cost-effective pci-express video card that fits my tight budget. i plan on spending 200+ max on a video card but if possible, i would like to spend even less. i have a lcd monitor that runs max at 1024x768 so i don't need a video card that supports ultra high resolutions. i want to be able to play doom3, farcry, hl2, cs soure on relatively high settings at 1024x768.

what video card would best fit my bill?

i am considering the evga 6600gt pci-e for 190 shipped at zzf. i also came across the 6200 turbocache series cards. they use system memory in conjunction with the ram on the video card. my question is how will a 6200 turbocache card run at 1024/x768 resolution?

The 6200TC is going to be a poor performer, even at 1024x768. The memory bandwidth is quite restricted. A non-TC 6200 would be a better choice and will run all of the games you mentioned fine at 1024x768 so long as AA/AF are off.

If you really want a cheap card, here is the pecking order:

6600GT>X700 Pro>6600>X600 Pro>X300>6200>X300SE>6200TC

That gives you a wide array of choices from about $195 down to the lowly 6200TC.

Q: Why are you getting the A8N-SLI if you're not going for an SLI setup? That's probably a lot more expensive than you need. Look for a cheaper PCI-e mobo.

Yea why are you getting that mobo? Seems like a waste to have an SLI mobo for 1024x768 res.

Get a 6600GT PCX at newegg...i saw some for around 180....i think...a while ago, but dont settle for anything else. no 6200. no vanilla 6600....maybe a 6800 if you wanna spend more, but for a tad less then 200, 6600GT is your best buy
