PCI Express Video Card Not Fitting Well

I just bought a new pci express motherboard and video card. I'm not sure if it's in quite right though. The video card will fit into the end of the slot towards the front of the case, but won't go all the way into the part of the slot towards the back. Some of the gold pins stick out about halfway. Is this normal or am I doing something wrong here?

No its not normal, and dont power up with it like that. I dont have pcie but certainly no pins should be showing, it should sit even.

iirc, you need to pull a pin or something out of the slot in order to slide the back in all the way, then you push the pin back in to secure it

The other thing coming to mind is that if the mobo were not on standoffs, it would sit lower and the card could not fully reach into the slot, especially at the rear. videogamersunite, is your board mounted on top of standoffs like shown on this page?

It sounds like the back of the card is not fully seating. This is caused by a very cheap case, or a mobo that was mounted incorrectly. The mobo is sitting lower in the case than it should and the screw bracket on top of the card is keeping it from sitting low enoug hin the socket to fully seat.

Quick and dirty fix is to bend up the bracket on the video card to allow it to seat fully in the socket, but it's not the right thing to do. You need to figure out WHY it doing that. Maybe you used the wrong length standoffs under the mobo. Maybe it's a real cheap case and the pan the mobo is mounted to got warped and bent from you inserting cards.
