pci express slot question

I would like to know if I can put a pci-express 1x soundcard in my 2nd pci-express 16x slot.

My system is in my signature. I'm probably never going to go SLI; the first pci-express 1x slot on my board is way too close to the northbridge cooler / graphics card, and the 2nd pci-express 1x slot is covered by the graphics card cooler. I've already tried to use the 2nd pci-express slot as a primary graphics card slot for better airflow, but the bios wont let me boot into windows, it gives me an error that I have to use the first pci-express slot for graphics. Thanks in advance.

I don't have any personal experience, but after doing some research I found that most likely you can.

Wiki answer:

"a PCIe card will physically fit (and work correctly) in any slot that is at least as large as it is (e.g. an x1 sized card will work in any sized slot)"

There should be no problems with that, I have never heard of a 1x or 4x etc not working in a bigger slot, and there is no logical reason for it not to. So go ahead.
