I'm thinking about changing my present graphic card. These are the cards which are available where I live, which is the one I should go for?

1. 8500 gt (512mb, ddr II)
2. 9600 gt (512mb, ddr III)
3. 9500 gt (512, ddr II)
4. 8800 gt (512mb, ddr II)
5. 8600 gt (1gb, ddr II)
6. Ati Radeon 3450

you sure you didnt mean PCI express? i would think most modern video cards capable of playing games would choke on the bandwidth avalable on a PCI bus

Yes. I checked the 8800GT is the best option. But there's a problem, I checked and this card is pretty expensive and I'm on a slightly tight budget. I found that the 9500GT is less expensive. Will this card actually be able to run games like Crysis and Far Cry 2 on say medium settings?

Of those the 8800gt or 9600gt are your only options for far cry2 and crysis. With that said, are you buying these retail? If you could spend $1140 online after MiR you can can get yourself a 4850}http://www.newegg.com/...x?Item=N82E16814102770[/L which would totally be worth it for the money over those other cards. Also a 9800gt can be had for $110 after MIR but I would still go with the 4850. What specifically is your budget? Since you want to play two of the most graphically demanding games there are, you might want to hold off till you can scrape a little more for either of these two cards, at least.

Thing is here where I stay (India), I don't think the 9800gt is selling. I found the 8800 for a little over $200, which I can afford after I start my job in Jan ( my first job btw!). I thought that 9500gt (512MB) could run the games better that my present HD 2400XT.

Most modern cards that come with DDR2 are budget, low-end/low-power fayre.

OP mentions gaming (Crysis, FarCry2) so should be looking at least at mid-range cards with GDDR3 (9600GT, 8800GT, 9600GSO, HD4670, HD4830). Assuming any of these are available at Indian prices within his budget. :(

How about 8800gs? That's the same as the 9600gso and could potentially be much cheaper than a 8800gt.
