PCI Express card with DVI

I recently got a Dell desktop with a Dell 19" LCD monitor. For the graphics I went with the built in Intel graphics chip. I'm now looking at getting a separate graphics card so that I can use the DVI connection on the monitor. I've done a bit of research but everything I find is directed towards game play.

Here's what I'm looking for

- PCI Express card
- DVI connection

What do I do

- Web surfing (Like to watch movie previews and YouTube content)
- Desktop apps
- A bit of photo editing

Don't

- Run dual monitor
- Don't play games

I'd recommend an X1300-series card. That way, you won't be out of the loop for Vista, and it has very good video playback, courtesy of Avivo.

You can pretty much get ANY PCI-E card you want.

Are you absolutely sure you have a PCI-E slot?

the x1300 also comes in PCI, PCI-E x1 and AGP flavors although they are almost twice as much as the PCI-E x16 version

if your dell has intel integrated graphics and a pci-e x16 slot you can just buy an add2-n card. they are something like $14-15 on ebay shipped.

its just a dvi add on port for integrated intel video. i have one sitting around somewhere actually.

Yeah I checked I have a PCI-Express x16 slot.

Actually, even ATI's X300 and X300 SE cards support DirectX9 -- they will fully support Vista's Aero Glass!

An X300 SE can be found on ebay for $20 plus shipping, and it will serve your purposes well. 2D quality is excellent (it just can't game at all, but that's not what youre looking for 🙂 ).

Try to find a cheap 7300GS. Otherwise an X300SE. Both are excellent for non-gamers (though the 7300gs can actually play games too 😛)

on that not the 6200tc / 7100gs would be good. the x300se is super cheap on ebay. like $15 because people pull them out of dells all the time.
