I have an older motherboard with a PCI-Express slot currently running an older GeForce 7300GT. I'm thinking of upgrading to a newer 8800GT card but all the ones I see state "pci express 2.0" in the advertisement.

I'm not sure if this board is/supports the 2.0, would the cards still work but at a slower speed?

It's supposed to work but some boards may need a BIOS update, if it's 1.1 you should be ok

My mobo is supposedly a PCI-E 1.0a slot and I'm running a 8800gt just fine so far (had it for 2-3 weeks now with no issues). That may not be the case with every mobo that has a 1.0 slot but at least for mine (Gigabyte GA-M61P-S3) it seems to work fine. I'm not sure if it needed a BIOS update for it or not since when I bought the mobo it was already using revision F5 (the latest BIOS revision is F7C now which added Phenom support). At any rate if you have a PCI-E 1.1 slot it should work since the only problems I've seen happened on motherboards with 1.0/1.0a slots.
