PCI-E vs. AGP 8x

Why are PCI-E cards far cheaper than their AGP counterparts? Is there a difference in speeds?
I've also noticed that every AMD mobo I've looked at only advertises support for AGP. Why is this?

PCI-E cheaper, that is probably one of the funniest things I've heard, ever. It's only the 6600GT's that are cheaper than the AGP counterparts, the high end cards are about 100-200$ cheaper in AGP format right now. PCI-E is about 2x the speed of AGP, but nothings taking advantage of it. The only AMD motherboards that support PCI-E are nForce4, and so far there are only 3 of them out.

Yea, I payed 80$ more for a PCI-E version of my card, but I figured it would hold its value better over agp if I wanted to sell it in a year.

technically blackinches doesn't think there is a difference since the cards do not use the full bandwidth of either pcie or agp. also pcie offers a better upgrade path for the future, unless you're going to get a new motherboard next time you upgrade anyway.

blackinches wishes there were some 6800gt pcie cards and some nforce4 ultra boards in stock.

in performance, not currently. in bandwidth, yes. pci-e has FAR more bandwidth hten agp.

All else equal, PCI-E exceeds AGP when you run at high resolutions such as 1600x1200. At 1024x768, PCI-E wont show up AGP much if any.

Even at 1600x1200 Resolutions PCI XPress will not show hardly any difference over AGP. The cards don't even use all of the bandwidth AGP 8x has to offer. Why would it be any faster on PCI XPress?? Latency may be alittle less but not enough to show much of any difference. Especially nothing in the real world.
