Hi,

I have an issue and I'm pulling my hair out...maybe you guys can help or suggest next steps that I can take.

I have a PCI-E video card, Sapphire X1300 (older but has served me well).

Since yesterday night it has been running a dual monitor setup, two Viewsonic VP201b monitors, 1600 x 1200 resolution on each. The primary was DVI output and the secondary was VGA output.

Suddenly, today I booted up to find the primary output (DVI) *dead*, and the VGA output became my primary output. Here's what I did to troubleshoot:

(1) I swapped the DVI cable between the two monitors and I get no output on either of them;

(2) I swapped the VGA cable between the two monitors and I get output on both *but* on the primary monitor (which had DVI input before) the picture has a strange blueish hue; on the secondary monitor it's the same as before (perfect);

(3) Checked the DVI cable; looks fine and hasn't been damaged, sheared/etc. in fact nobody even touched it between yesterday and today.

What are the odds of the video card DVI just dying overnight? Could that be the issue? What else could I test? And any thought of why I might be getting a slight hue on the (formerly) primary DVI-monitor? Could only the VGA input on that monitor have issues?

Thanks a million for all your help!

One thing I would do is turn off multi-monitor and test each individually with DVI and VGA, using all cables you have.

I have:

(1) with DVI from card to either monitor -- no output either during boot-up or in Windows;

(2) with VGA from card to either monitor -- output on both although the monitor that was using DVI in the past (I don't think it ever had VGA connected to it) has a strange blue hue on the screen (once in Windows).

So it's almost like two issues -- first the DVI is *dead* on the card -- does this even happen? I've never heard of one of outputs to die; second one of the monitors has issues with the VGA input (?).

Any other thoughts?

Yes, I only have one here; I might get one more tomorrow. How could a cable go bad? Nothing was changed/moved/unplugged/etc.??? Strange...

Could be the cable, could be the output on the video card.

Do you have another computer w/ dvi that you can test on both monitors ?

No, I wish I had another DVI cable; it would help to make sure that's not the issue. Most likely I can get one tomorrow...

I did try another computer (laptop) but it only has VGA output and the first monitor is working as well on this, and it does have the same blue hue tint; I wonder what that is. I'll try to take a picture and post it (almost like the white is a cyan over the VGA input?).
