PCI-e slot blocked by PSU, can't fit dual slot card...options?

So it never occurred to me that my 3rd GPU wouldn't fit in the last PCI-E slot because it has a dual slot cooler. But there's plenty of space in the slot above....obviously a PCI-E extension cable would do the trick, but the slot above has a PCI-e 1x in it. So I can't secure the card to the case without slotting the card into the 1x slot (it'll fit, its open ended.)

So is there some sort of solution where I can extend the card over to the 4x port, while still securing it to the case somehow, without slotting into the 1x slot?

Can't really beat physics, there's either space, or there's not. Without pictures we can only guess at your debacle. If you need all those cards you can run a PCI-E extender if you have two slots of space somewhere in the chassis, but PCI-e isn't designed to be sent long distances, so they don't offer too much extension.

I've sort of thought about a similar problem myself before. Its a simple enough idea with a video card to get around not having a read slot. Simply use a short monitor cable to extend the VGA/DVI/Whatever port to the back from where you mount it. I suppose if you want it to look clean you could even piece something together with an appropriate slot cover combined with a disassembled VGA/DVI wall plate. If you're cheap you could just shove it through whatever hole available and zip tie it to something to keep it from falling back in.

Do you have room to mount the card into the side of the case? My idea was to drill holes that matched up with any screw holes in the card (there usually are some and then mount it to the floor of the tower using motherboard standoffs.

My other idea was to simply dremel out a slot backplate so that the card could be mounted upside down in the back. I didn't like that idea much since it didn't seem very secure. I'm sure you've thought of this as well though.

I never implemented any of these ideas, in the end I found it was just easier to get a different motherboard or case that fit the needs better.

I've got plenty of extra space, it's more a matter of how to mount it. I can't screw it to any other slot while using the riser cause they all have empty ports that prevent me from pushing the card all the way down without inserting it into the port. Unless there's some sort of riser kit where the base sits on top of the PCIE port, and there's some sort of bracket extension that extends up a few inches from the screw mount?

It's a 750ti for PhysX so I don't need to worry about cabling. Right now it's sharing B/W with my main GPU, I'd rather move it off that slot and free up some lanes for SLI.
