I am not at all familiar with SLI/PCI-E video cards. I would like to purchase 2 cards which I can run in SLI mode. Can someone recommend me which ones to get with best price to performance value. I am looking to spend around 400-500~ Also I would prefer cards that I do not need to o/c as I have no idea how to do that.

Thanks.

Why?
If you're looking at $400~$500, then you might as well get a single card such as a 7800GT(X) which will run cooler, consume less power etc etc.
The benefits of buying SLI at the same price point as a higher end equally performing card are nil.
The "wow" factor of having some kind of SLI is not worth it. Just buy a top end card and have that "wow" factor instead :p

There really aren't many options for sli. If your lookig to spend 400-500 total you could do sli 6800gs's and thats bout it. 6800gt's or better are really out of the price range and a 6600gt is just silly. That isn't a bad config if your really looking to do sli but if your looking to spend that all at once a 7800gtx is simular price and usually simular performance.

Not sure about running cooler but according to specs they recommend a 400 watt PS for a single 7800gtx and a 420 watt ps for dual 6800gs's. If you assume power requirements are fairly directly related to heat generated they should be pretty close on that side of things too.

honestly, i would take the money you've got, and invest in a single card and get an SLI mobo like nextman suggested, leaving the option open to have a second card join the party. now if you had twice that to spend...

Can you recommend one? and explain the differences between the different types. Also what is the ##/## beside your specs for your video card?? This is all very new to me and I don't want to screw up and get the wrong card. I will be using DFI LANParty UT NF4 SLI-DR Expert mobo.

Help appreciated.
