PCI-E 2.0 x1 SATA 6G controller cards and SATA6G SSD, worth it?

Just wondering. I only have PCI-E 1.0 x1 slots on my P35 mobo. There are some cards that are PCI-E 2.0 x1, with dual SATA 6G ports, like this Highpoint card at Newegg.

But PCI-E 1.0 is half of the speed. So if that card is limited by PCI-E 2.0 x1 bandwidth to 500GB/sec per direction, then it would be limited to 250GB/sec in both directions on PCI-E 1.0 x1, right? Which is pretty limiting, if you wanted to stick a SATA6G SSD on it.

I think that I would be better off just using my ICH9R, and RAID-0 a couple of SATA2 SSDs, to get effective SATA 6G bandwidth, right?

If using PCI-E x1 @ Verson 1.0/1.1, then yes, a Sata 6Gb/s will be limited to a max of 250MB/s.

The Raid 0 can get like sata 3 speeds, but it is up to you if the loss of TRIM is worth it.

Of course, if you would notice the speed between SATA 2 and SATA 3 outside of bentch marks, that is up to you and your type of usage.

My guess is that you'd be best served by using the current Intel controller on your board, and save the money for a MOBO upgrade down the line.

I had the chance to try out a Gigabyte G1 Assassin which uses the Marvell 9182 controller. This SATA6 controller uses two PCIE 2.0 lanes. This is the result I received in ATTO with my Vertex 3 120GB.

That same drive drive on an Asus P6X58D Premium which uses the Marvell 9123 controller. This SATA6 controller uses one PCIE 2.0 lane.

IMO just go with the ICH9R.

the second drive is a linear gain with RAID0 and diminishing returns begin on the third drive.

pci-e is full duplex, sata is half duplex - most ICH is bound by pci-e link that is small anyways. best solution is get a cheap $50 LSI card that is 6gbps and pci-e X4 2.0 or X8 1.0 and rock out - software raid - use those cpu cores doing nothing.

Good posts,,, What is a LSI emulex ? Soo how much are these so called PCI-e RAID CARD 6gbps ??? Aren't they expensive like 200 + dollars or more.
