pci-e 1x

PCI-E 1x expansion cards include SATA and SATA II RAID host adapters, tv tuners, firewire adapters, RS-232 serial adapters, video cards (Matrox has a 1x model), and I'm sure there are other expansion cards available. Mainboard mfg's are hoping that mfg's will continue developing hardware to fit the various PCI-E slots.

Think of it as a replacement for a PCI slot with a really small connector and you have it. Similar bandwidth.

I noticed above a mention on controllers. 4x PCIe is better for SATA/SCSI RAID controllers, Firewire b, and 1Gb ethernet. 4x fits better where PCI-X was used on server boards (also 8x).
