what is a good cheap pci video card?...i know agp is alot better, but my sons computer dont have an agp slot..thanks in advance,

the system is a DELL 2300....it has a cleron 1.8 GHZ cpu and 256 mb pc133 ram..onboard sound and video...windows xp home....i dont really care much for the computer, but i bought it at a really good price from my wifes sister for my 7 year old son...the first computer i have ever bought..i build all mine..

do you think adding a video card and more ram would be worth it?thanks again..

I don't know, do you think if I replace my 6 cyl with a v8 I will get a performance boost?

Yes it would make a difference..But then again it is for a 7 year old, so I doubt he'll care that much about performance. As others have stated, the 9100 would be the best pci card you could get.

And he didn't ask "will it give more performance" - he asked if it'd be worth it, which is a relative statement. For some, upgrading from a Ti4200 to a Ti4400 is worth it. Some will upgrade their RAM just to eke a few more MHz out of it. Some only upgrade from maybe a TNT to a Radeon 9700 Pro. 🙂

PC133 RAM is cheap; get another 256MB stick and put it in there, assuming there's any slots free. If not, take a stick out (128MB probably), sell it in the FS/T section here, and put the 256MB stick in its place, for 384MB. But having 512MB will definitely be enough, if there's enough open slots.
Most, if not all, PC133 is high density RAM - I know Intel chipsets have had trouble with this; I don't know if a) that is the case anymore, or b) the system even has an Intel chipset.

And, a videocard, yes, a new videocard should definitely be worth it. The only really decent onboard video (in my opinion) is the nForce2 IGP - GF4 MX level graphics.

In that case just get something like a cheap Radeon 7500 PCI; anything faster will be wasted on such a slow system.

Will AGP radeon 9100 be significantly faster than 9100 PCI????
It depends on what system you put it into. In this system there will probably be hardly any difference at all, however on a fast system the difference between AGP and PCI can be massive - up 50% and more depending on the title and settings you're playing it at.
