I disagree. Any card that does not need the extra speed of the PCI bus will perform better in an ISA version. This is because there is a lot less crap in the ISA protocol vs. PCI.
Zoom (now defunct) used to make an ISA version and a PCI version of the same modem. The speed difference was small, but significant according to PCWorld.
The fastest Parallel port card is the ISA DTC Parallel Express. There are several ISA parallel port cards that are faster than the fastest PCI card, SIIG Cyberparallel. My company is heavily involved in the parallel port, and it is our job to know what the best plugin cards are
Besides, I would rather set jumpers than mess with plug and pray.
