pcchips 767v (693?) with p3 450

one last trouble i have is with my old p3 450 box. it is running on a pcchips 767v (via apollo pro) 693?? with a 596a?. i doubt the southbridge is relavent but it gives me so much trouble. it was the reason i upgraded to the 733eb. but i used to be able to use win2k (at least during betas). but now, it barely installs or randomly freezes or blue screens or reboots. even nt will freeze (didnt before). i flashed the bios a few years ago, which may be the reason. pcchips does not have an older version and i dont think i do either. eitherway i get the same irql and page errors. my dad wants to be using w2k or wxp because 98 crashes way too much on him.
 
also id like to say that i would imagine it has to do with memory. to accelerate the crash, i run memory test in sandra and it halts. i try setting cas3 in bios with slowest timings. i try different ram that i know works in my main machine (cas3 @ pc133, cas2 @ pc100). no go either even at cas3 @ pc100.
