PCB layout question

I was using EAGLE Layout for a project. I used FreeDFM.com to check any errors on my PCB. I got the following:

Missing Soldermask Clearance (142 violations)

Requirements:All component holes should have soldermask relief, or they will be covered by soldermask, and unsolderable. Non-plated holes should also have soldermask relief.

How do I fix this problem?

I'm just using the standard footprints for my IC packages. I don't know how to add soldermask relief.

Thanks!

Are you going to order the boards? Or etch them yourself?

I use Eagle from time to time and as far as I remember I have never changed anything on the soldermask layer, I have just used the mask that is automatically generated by Eagle.

My guess would be that something is going wrong when you are generating the Gerber files. Have you tried looking at the board in a Gerber viewer?

I found out what was wrong. When I used the default CAM Processor job for GERBER RS274x, the bottom soldermask and copper trace were mirrored by default. I re-processed the board without mirroring and its showing no errors now.

I think I'm going to order some proto boards. I tried etching before and I suck at it.

Did you try the laser toner method ?
I use a laserjet printer, photo paper , muriatic acid and peroxide and it makes great boards.

No, I have not tried the laser toner method. But a friend tried it and used some kits obtained from Radio Shack. The board didn't turn out as great. Do you happen to have a tutorial on this?

Its basically printing off the board design onto glossy photo paper .
Iron that onto the board with a regular household iron.
The paper will stick to the board.
Soak the board in water for a bit, then rub off the paper, it will leave the toner on the board.
mix up some muriatic acid and peroxide, can get muriatic acid at any hardware store for about 6.00 a gallon, add correct amount of drug store 1.00 bottle hydrogen peroxide.
Drop board in etchant.
rinse

It basically works because laser toner responds to the heat and attaches to the board.

Then drill holes.
