I used to use pcanywhere back in the day when I worked at an ISP. It made it easy to control remote Windows computers from a single console.

Anyhow, are there any alternatives now (free?), or by chance has microsoft already built something like this into windows XP that I don't know about? :)

Thanks for any info.

Not quite sure how PCAnywhere works but type mstsc into the run prompt to get to the Remote Connection screen.

Windows XP does have Remote Desktop functionality, but its mainly meant for LAN controlling, not internet. You might have better luck with VNC, because it uses less bandwidth.

http://ultravnc.sourceforge.net/

As for the built in Windows XP support, you set the settings on the PCs you might want to control through Control Panel -> System -> Remote -> Remote Desktop. And the PC that does the controlling would find it in Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Communications -> Remote Desktop Connection.

I used TightVNC and liked it as well. Give it a try!
