This is my 1st of 2nd post about my pc. It's booting up and 9 out of 10 times, it's freezing. I went into the startup mode and noticed this is my RAM setup.

1st--what ram/where should I go to get the upgrade. I'm guessing I can only get 4gb...if I can get 8gb, should I? How do I know?

Thanks
Dane

512 MB shared single channel DDR2-533MHz SDRAM standard, upgradable to 4GB of shared dual channel DDR2-533MHz SDRAM 4 DIMM slots

You can add 2x1GB sticks in there. You'll just need to swap them in after pulling the 2x256MB sticks. If you're running a 32bit OS, you're probably not going to have much more usable memory than you have now though.

Running win XP

Think it will help with my slow PC?

A newer and faster hard drive would probably help more than the extra RAM since you already have 2.5GB, which is a good amount of RAM for most tasks. Also, when you upgrade, you can just transfer the newer hard drive into your next system.

In what way would you like to speed up your PC? In what applications does it feel slow to you?

no, it's not going to fix your PC.

try pulling out the extra two RAM sticks and just run the 2GB, see if the freezing stops. if not i would wager you have another problem, possibly just software-related.

If you want to test your RAM for errors, just download memtest86+, burn the CD, and let it run.

You could also download a Knoppix (or other version of Linux) live CD, to see if the computer boots up nice and snappy like. That's the first thing I try if I think I might have a bad piece of hardware.
