pc4200 and 5300 RAM

I got a laptop that came with PC4200 RAM. I read that I can buy PC5300 RAM and the laptop will still run it but at a slower speed? I'm not going to mix the RAM. Only have 2 slots so I will put in both 5300.

I would recommend the same PC4200 RAM - there is no guarantee that the PC5300 will be stable at lower speeds.

I've been wondering the same thing. Right now I have pc8500 in my pc only because i got it on sale. I want to buy 2 more gb, but do i need to get more of the same speed, or can i save some money and get the lower pc6400? Will there be a problem with the 8500?
