PC3200 and PC2700 DDR RAM

hi, i was just wondering whether PC2700 and PC3200 ram would work together. Currently, i am running 2x256mb PC2700 RAM and i am planning on buying 2x512mb PC3200 RAM. i read from somewhere a long time ago that they could work together, but the pc3200 would operate at pc2700 speeds. i dont know if its true, so if anybody can confirm it, that would be great.
