It's been a while since I've dealt with RAM, but would anybody ever recommend using a gig of pc3200 Crucial ram alongside a gig of pc2700 Kingston ram. I'm assuming the pc3200 would clock down. Just to throw another wrench, my motherboard calls for using pc2100 or pc2700. Again, I'm assuming the pc3200 would be recognized and clock down.

Just wondering if anybody has done this.

I'm going to go on the assumption that your motherboard and CPU run at 166.67 MHz FSB and that it is an Intel rig.

If your motherboard uses PC2700 you can increase the FSB in the BIOS to 200MHz so that the memory can run at PC3200. This would also overclock your CPU which may or may not be possible. You would have to increase the FSB bit by bit to see how far she goes while checking temps and stability. Voltage may need to be increased to the CPU for stability causing extra heat.

If you PC3200 use in conjunction with PC2700 the m/board will only runs as quick as the slowest module.

you also risk dmg'ing the 2700 stick if you try to get it on par with the 3200 one.

depends actually.

I had an Intel chipset motherboard which ran on lower DDR technology, 2700, and wanted to pair it with 3200. It wouldn't take my 3200 XMS stick.

don't waste your money unless you're totally sure your board will take the RAM and clock it down. even if you called the mobo manafac's they'll say the same thing, they'll be like, 'read the damn manual it sez DDR333.'

you do so at your own risk.
