I have a 256 meg stick of PC2700 RAM that I was hoping to use in my computer. The mobo has a VIA KT233 chipset. Will the PC2700 ram just step down to PC2100 in this configuration? Is it ok, to put a piece of PC2100 and a piece of PC2700 ram into the mobo at the same time? help me. thanks.

it doesnt really "step down"

pc2700 is rated to run up to 166mhz
pc2100 is rated to run up to 133mhz

im assuming you meant a kt266 and not a kt233 motherboard 🙂

depending on what cpu your using you probably have your fsb set at either 100mhz or 133mhz... in either case both pc2100 and pc2700 will work fine

they should work fine together also (no guarantee though... not cause its pc2100 and pc2700, but cause sometimes different brands of memory just dont like to work together... but this is rare) really it should work find with both
