Hi All:
I have a couple questions I hope you folks can answer. I've read a huge number of these posts but am still up in the air about what to do.

First, I plan in the next week or so to buy either an Athlon 1.2 or 1.4 (both 266). I've heard that the latest steppings of the 1.2 that are shipping are not great for overclocking. How are the 1.4s? I know they have just recently come out, so not many people may have them set up yet, but if you do, what are your results? Should I forget about trying to overclock the 1.2 and just go for a 1.4 and not bother overclocking (or doing just some modest overclocking)? Is heat on the 1.4 even more of an issue that it is with the 1.33 Athlons? Common sense tells me it would be, but I'm curious what you have found. The price difference between the 1.2 and the 1.4 is not all that great, and I could go in either direction, based upon your advice.

Also, should I use the Crucial 2100 DDR CAS 2.5 memory or the Corsair 2400 CAS 2 memory? There is only $30 price difference between the two. BTW, I'll be getting a 256 meg stick -- most people say that's plenty.

Thanks for your help. I really wouldn't post these questions in a new thread if I could find the answers in other posts.

To the best of my knowledge the PC2400 RAM wont be of any benefit unless your going to overclock FSB/Memory in which case you'd want to go for it...

the only good that pc2400 will do you is youll be able to run your ram in spec @ 150mhz, but crucial pc2100 will run that. you could try to go for 166 FSB :)

If I were you I'd go for the crucial. 1.4 is the overclocking champ right now. Lots of people got 1.6 or higher on it with air cooling. I would make sure I have good air cooling though and some arctic silver. The taisol 742 or 760 is good, and the swiftech mc370 or 462 is good.

Thanks Folks,
I didn't realize the 1.4 were so good for overclocking. Since the price difference between that and the 1.2 isn't all that great, I think I'll go for one of them. Thanks again. Mike
