I just bought an A64 system so that BF2 will run better....I also bought 1GB of PC3200 RAM.....I have had a few memory problems with battlefield after patching....I know there is a problem with the patch so have reinstalled....to the point...

After reinstalling I got this message saying that battlefield was tring to put 1.5GB chunks into memory and it crashed.....as I don't have 1.5 GB or RAM I was wondering if putting an old 512MB stick of PC2100 in would help..... From what I understand this would cause some slowdown but would I really notice it??

Would all of my RAM revert to PC2100 speeds.....

Would I lose the benefit of dual channel?

Thanks in advance

Don't even think about it. Deffinently not worth it. I am not sure the A64 controller will even let you go that low but even if it could you would cut almost a third of your cpu bandwith away. Bad horrible idea. Look for a 512 of 3200 or higher can't be more then $70-80.

You do not NEED more than 1Gb to play BF2 although I've heard BF2 plays a bit smoother with 2Gb than 1Gb (it's a RAM hog like BF1942). For the most part though, youdon't need more than 1Gb to play any present game.

You definately don't want to put the PC2100 in that system. You'll cripple it if it works at all.

If your mobo is a dual channel mobo what you REALLY want is another identical stick to the one you already have in there. You'll get a substantial performance boost from dual channel.

Lol :) that is exactly what I thought but figured I'd check anyway.....

Battlefied runs fine when it isn't crashing.....but it was just the error message saying that battlefield was trying to put 1.5GB into memory that threw me!

I love the game but it is just so damn frustrating to get it to work!!!

Having just spent abot £590 (yes UK pounds) upgrading my computer(around $1100 I think) on a mobo, processor, CPU, 1GB RAM, and X800XL the wife has tightened my purse strings :( so no more RAM for me....
