Hi all,
I've got a Sony laptop that uses PC2-5300 with a pair of 512MB modules. I'd like to upgrade the memory to 2GB so the 512MB modules have to come out. I've got a Dell laptop that uses PC2700 memory modules, so I was thinking perhaps I could reuse the 512MB modules on the Dell. It that possible? Can PC2-5300 memory modules be used on the Dell?
Thanks for your help!

Yeah you'll need to get DDR2 for your Sony, though it doesn't have to match the speed of the existing RAM, the system will just run at the highest speed supported by the slowest DIMM. The 2 in PC2-5300 and missing from pc-2700 denotes DDR2 RAM.

As a side note I can't remember seeing a laptop with more than 2 DIMM slots, so I'm not sure you'd be able to just add more RAM, even if it was the right type, you'd have to replace the RAM with higher capacity DIMMs.
