PC2-3200 vs. PC2-4200 RAM

Is there any significant differences as far as speed and performance goes? This is will be standard value memory, no overclocking. Looking at getting 2 x 1GB sticks.

Well for one thing, you can only buy one or the other depending on which the mobo supports. Other than that I don't see much difference.

Just out of curiousity, isn't DDR 3200 a pipeline of 6.7 GB/s (the max right now for 'CPU/memory bus' or something like that)? In that case anything above 3200 is redundant isn't it?

DDR3200? That's not 6.7 GB/s, it's 25.6 GB/s. Wow that would be some sweet-ass ram. 3200Mhz is what I'm talkin' about . . . 😉

Anyway, that's not really true. More RAM bandwidth is not redudant and will improve your PC's performance overall. Especially in 3D apps . . .

If he's talking about PC3200 and PC2-4200 that's true...but there is PC2-3200 RAM.

Anyway, to answer his question...
If you're not overclocking, just go for what the motherboard supports @ stock.
