pc1600 and fsb266

Hi,

PC1600 is for 200fsb; PC2100 is for 266fsb; but are those settings done in the
motherboard; or does the cpu have to be 200fsb to run PC1600?

Thanks.

I don't understand your question
it makes no sense
Please be clear ....wait...a flash of insight....
I think the answer to you question is ...yes

but that is assuming that the meaning of your question is what I think it is

I think I know what your question is. The CPU sets the multiplier for the bus speed. Since the bus speed and memory speed run at the same speed on current DDR motherboards, you cannot run the RAM at 266 (PC2100) with a 200 bus. The only way to run the memory at 266 is to set the multiplier lower. For example, with a 1GHz Athlon set the multiplier to 7.5 and the bus speed to 133MHz and the memory will be running at 266 DDR (PC2100) along with the bus speed.

Sorry, my question wasn't too clear. I was wondering if I bought a 266 cpu, can I use pc1600 memeory, and then later switch to pc2100 memory. Thanks.
