PC133 Sodimm in a PC100 Gateway Laptop?

I currently have a Gateway Solo 5300 laptop with 256MB PC100, CL2 memory and a 850P3 processor. I know desktop computers memory can run at lower speeds in most case without a problem, but will this work for laptops as well? The reason I ask is because PC133 SODIMMs seem to be much cheaper than PC100. I am looking for another 256MB. I searched an found a thread similar to this, but I am mainly wondering if anyone has any experiences with Gateways.

Thanks,
Brian

Every desktop PC I have worked with has accepted faster memory and then just underclocked it to it's running speed, even managed to put a PC133 into a PC66 based system and it worked fine.

Generic ram doesn't work that well with older systems though, I find that it often only detects half of the total memory.

I would have thought that it would be the same kind of situation with laptops, the only time I had a problem was when I tried to put a PC100 SODIMM into a PC66 based laptop, the module was too big and would not fit so I think the size can be more of an issue!

Hopefully a Gateway laptop owner/expert will wander by soon!
