can pc133 be put into a mobo that uses pc100?

Dell optiplex Gx1 (oooold machine) that doesnt have ram for it, but the price difference is funny between pc133 and pc100. It's not my comp, the owner wants to use it for internet use only so he doesnt want to buy a brand new one.

Should be OK. I think I have that in an old celeron based computer. The PC133 will just run at PC100 speed.

What motherboard and chipset? New high density RAM (most PC133 is HD) may not work with it. Only half of the RAM may appear to the motherboard. I believe you must have dual-sided RAM, with a total of 16 chips, for it to work.

Yes, it *should* be okay, but with a caveat. The PC133 ram you have may be High Density memory. You need to check if that's the case and, if it is, check to make sure that your mobo doesn't just support 512MB of memory - because if it does, it will not support high density memory modules.

Well, just saw Jeff7's post after I posted mine (guess my typing is getting slower...). Anyway, make sure you don't have incompatible ram.
