Can anyone tell me if there is a noticable performance diff between PC100 SDRAM and PC 133 SDRAM? About how much faster does a system run with PC 133 RAM?

The difference depends on the apps you are running, but generally speaking the increase in performance is around 5%. However, if you are buying RAM you should buy PC133 SDRAM, since that is the latest standard. There are other issues to consider when selecting RAM, especially if you are overclocking, where PC100 can be a hindrance, but I'm not going into that.

You won't see much of a performance difference, per se. But, you should always buy pc133 if you're running on a pc133 bus (unless your mobo allows for different memory and fsb speeds)

You only see a difference in speed when running at a 133fsb. If you run PC133 ram at 100fsb you won't see any difference from running
PC100 at 100fsb.

Now cas3 and cas2 are an entirely different beast.

Yep. Memory bandwidth changes between cas2 and cas3. I think HardOCP did an article a little while ago that basically tested how high you have to be at cas3 to reach the same mem. bandwidth you'd get at cas2. I think I remember 133 cas3-3-3 being the same amount of bandwidth as 112 cas2-2-2.

I see no need for PC100 Ram right now. 33% increase is not an exceptional amount. When DDR PC150 comes out thats a 300% increase. Then you overclock it... Unless you can get a substantially good price I'd stick to PC100 for now.

Shyne take our advice and get yourself PC133 if you are buying new ram. The price difference really isn't that much.

then again it depend what your needs are
most likely a 133 fbs dimm is not required
if you going
duron or celeron
it is only used for PIII that use 133mhz bus where having this would benefit

with the extremely minimal price difference between pc133 nad pc100(for example, at the show over the weekend, hyundai cas 2 pc133 was less than some pc100 at the show)... it is a much better idea to purchase pc133.

For a couple of dollars per 128mb more, you get somewhat more peace of mind for the future. Not to mention, for Celeron and Duron users, on VIA chipset mb's, you can run the Ram at 4/3 of the system clock(110 system clock = approx. 147mhz ram clock.. :) ).

One good price for excellent pc133 ram? Crucial Cas2 128mb pc133 for $140... It is exactly the same price as their 8e PC100 ram.. ;).
