Grabbed from March 2001 issue:

1. Tom's Hardware Guide: This full-blown community of PC fans teems with opinionated message boards.
2. The PC Guide: Technical hardware info in plain English, plus a great guide to PC fundamentals.
3. Ars Technica: Unabashedly geekly coverage of CPUs, motherboards, and the like; if you plan to build your own PC, go here first.
4. MadOnion.com: Free tools such as downloadable benchmarks and an upgrade advisor that analyzes your PC's parts.
5. StorageReview.com: A wealth of data on hard, CD-RW, and DVD-ROM drives, including specs, tests, and a comparison engine...

Hey...where's Anandtech?

Been to them all and they all blow compared to Anandtech.

PC WORLD bites the big one too though...so there all peas in the same pod.

I'm not the least bit surprised to see Tom's Hardware at the top. Apparently it's the biggest (ie most read) PC website on the internet.

I think it's a great site and I go there everyday.

I think Tom's homepage is hard to follow and is over-cluttered. I prefer Anandtech over Tom's anyday. I don't like HardOCP's setup, for since they're all news and humor, it makes sense. I like HardOCP, of course, because of the content :)

BTW, PC World is worse than just "crap".

I too noticed that Anandtech was conspicuously absent. I've been a PC World subscriber for a number of years, and as my current issue arrived in the mail this week, I took a look at it and asked, "what am I getting out of this anymore?" I couldn't come up w/ a good answer, and I'll not be renewing my subscription come time.

Anandtech is number 1! Don't worry guys, we'll get it there! Tell all your friends and relatives! Even if it's not on some stupid list, at least we all know it is.
