I've got a WinMo phone with a manilla home screen. WinM is supposed to be the most user unfriendly mobile OS yet I can get to my emails, or texts, or contacts, or apps with one swipe I cant see iPhone users or Android being much worse.

How much quicker than one swipe does it need to be?

The whole point is how interconnected everything is. Example - hit the people hub - you've got your contacts, latest fastbook statuses, pictures, recent contacts, etc.

You want to talk a lack of efficiency...don't get me started on the Sense 3D message viewer. I despise that thing.

I agree. With SPB Mobile Shell my WinMo phone was pretty darn user friendly. You hardly ever saw the raw WinMo interface beneath.

Bolded doesn't sound efficient, it sounds a nightmare.

If I want to check my texts I don't want to wade through everyone else's facebook updates and pictures.

That's because you haven't used it. It isn't one giant list of everything. Its separated into different views of a panorama control. It is considerably easier tha get to these things in WP7 than 6.5 (sense, spb, or stock...I've had them all on my HD2).

edit: frankly, if you're a fan of WM 6.5, this discussion is a waste of time. You probably won't like WP7. Go out and get a Blackberry for your next phone, because that's the closest thing on the market to what you want.

Well if you have to swipe sideways you're back to the manilla2d way of doing things.

I know, I'm just bitter there's not a mobile operating system that suits me now. :'(

You don't... there's a "button" just for messages.. and teh facebook stuff is to the side of your contact list.. you don't have to even look at it to do anything

The ones who wanted pretty and easy to use went to Apple.

The ones who wanted a mix went with Android.

The business users stayed with WinMo and RIM.

I'm not seeing WinPho7's unique selling point.
Doesn't have to be unique. Each sub-market has competition.

WinP7 is competing with Apple for "as is" smartphone consumers and RIM for business users. That's a big potential market, esp. considering how crappy RIM hardware is.

edit -- hilarious, btw, that they had product placements ready on Monday's TV shows

I got a Kingston Class 4 16gb card on Monday and popped that in my Samsung Focus. Filled it up with music & apps. Did some soft resets. It seems fine. Kinda wished I hadn't fragged my A Data Class 6 16gb card before XDA forum figured out which cards work and which don't. Oh well.

Someone told me that a way to "fix" those cards to work in other devices again has been find. He was supposed to send me the info. He didn't. I'll bug him for ya.

I have that on my Captivate and am not such a fan of it. For that reason I don't sync my Facebook anymore with my contacts. I really don't like having status updates, messages, requests and such mixing in with text/call history (although you can check just texts and just the call log as well).

At this point, most of these platforms will do the same exact thing.

yeah I will be honest, I loved it all over fox and it made me way more interested.

too bad I am on verizon, and we have nada.

I might be getting a new phone from work, and its driod 2 or X right now.....I have a curve2, and the torch seems nice too.

but I was told the r2d2 driod 2 was doable :D :D :D

But it's so poor. My Zune HD has smart DJ, it can play audiobooks from Audible.com, and it can update my facebook status with the song that I'm listening to. My "facebook" phone can't do that. Why?

The more pressing question is why anybody would actually want to do that.

i noticed the little zune button in the zuneHD facebook account last week for the first time, didnt know it would update the song at first. kind of cool, but not something i will actually use. i do have friends that have some locator program on their phones that updates where they are constantly, its very annoying. and why the hell would they want everyone to know exactly where they are all the time?

Off topic, but between the Droid 2 and the Droid X, I personally recommend the X. Nice, big screen and a very nice camera, from what I've seen from my brother's X. Overall a very nice phone, though definitely large.
