hey guys, i put my comp together yesterday and it was working fine all today and then it just turned off randomly. now, whenever i try to turn it on, the power on led and fans come on for 1/2 a second and it just dies again.

i cant smell any smoke or burning from the psu. i did not do any overclocking. i think its a mobo problem, but i havent tested my parts yet.

my rig is :

i5-2500k
asrock p67 extreme6
xfx black edition 850w
hd 6950
ripjaws x 1333mhz 4g
seagate 500g hdd
samsung sata dvd drive
silverstone ft02
cm 212+

Do you have another stick of ram lying somewhere? If you find one try that one last time.

Try also resetting your BIOS via jumper.

well i have a ddr2 stick (i think) in my old comp, but i dont know if that will work on my p67 board. i checked the 24pin/8pin mobo connectors and the 6pin x 2 power cables for my graphics card

my psu has 2 8pin cables for the mobo, one is a straight 8 and the other is 2x4pins. i used the 8pin, does it make any difference? both are hardwired in my semi modular psu

is this any different to clearing cmos? coz ive pressed the cmos button on the back i/o panel and it hasnt changed anything. if not, ill read my mobo manual and see how to do a bios reset with the jumpers.

sorry guys, this is my first build :C

It wont work on your MB (only DDR3 memory). Have you tried resetting your BIOS?

Since you have another PC, try swapping the Power Supply. Or the videocard.

You want to try everything everything before blaming the motherboard.

You did say it was working before. Did you mean you were able to boot to the operating system? And use it?

everything was working. i booted, installed the operating system, installed drivers, played computer games, watched youtube...pretty much everything. then all of a sudden it died :C

Alright got to the BIOS settings and check if there is anything there thats out of the ordinary. Like CPU speed is identified correctly, drives and peripherals are detected correctly. Go to PC health status and check the temperature.

If it still wont boot, return the motherboard.

sorry, i think i have my terminologies wrong

by it wont boot, i mean i turn it on and the fan spins and led light comes on for 1/2 or 1/4 of a second and then it all just turns off. i cant get into the bios.

i checked the cpu temps when i set it all up (at idle), and they were all low 30s.

All cables are snug and fit? Did you swap power supply (from your old pc)? Swap video card? Re-seat video card? Remove all peripherals connected to the motherboard. All of it. Mouse, keyboard, hard drive, optical drive. Turn on PC. Did you get to your BIOS? If not. Return the motherboard.

Swap the power supply with another one. If that doesn't work get another motherboard (ASUS, GIGABYTE, MSI).

I searched your motherboard at google at it looks like you are not the only one with issues.

do they have the same symptoms as me? can you please link me to these threads? im thinking of getting a gigabyte mobo, i was originally turned off the asus ones coz i saw alot of bad reviews about them. msi seem a good option too

i dont have anything against asrock if their mobo is the culprit, but id still like to try other brands

first build... let's not give up on the mobo just yet....

1) temps may have looked ok. but they could have crept up due to a poor heatsink fan mount, or too much thermal past (or too little)... You just need a drop or two of thermal paste.. and then spread it thin, like a layer of paint with a credit card.. . and then tighten up the mount (unless it uses a clamp)... if you try to wiggle it gently, it shouldn't move too much, if at all....

2) if you mounted the board in the case.. and have those case standoffs in places where there are no corresponding screwholes on the motherboard, then it could be causing a short.. so make sure the standoffs only existing under the mounting holes.. no extras allowed!!!

3) the 2x4 pin ATX is ok.. as is the 8 pin EPS. The EPS 8pin is designed for higher powered server boards... but either should work if your board has an 8 pin connector...

4) pop the cmos battery , and flip the jumper from the two pins its currently on, over to the the two adjacent pins for a few second, then back.. and then pop the battery back in... If your board has a special switch on the back , read the manual as you may need to press that in leiu of the using a jumper to clear the cmos.....

hey guys,

my dad moved around the power cables for the monitor/pc and stuff and got it working again. i have no idea what happened, should i be worried my pc will die again? i checked the temps again and i got this:

Df3re.png

is there anything i should be wary of? could my mobo/psu/hardware etc still be damaged?

Excellent. Temp looks good.

Strange moving the "power cables" fixed it. You should be ok until it freezes up again then you go back to square one.
