Pc wont start

I just built a pc I pluged it in and turned it on and it wont start. All the lights and fans are going but it sounds like it's powering down. The monitor does not say no signal but it's just a black screen. I hope its just something dumb and I did not break it.

After looking at it the cpu cooler fan starts to go then stop so does the video card

The spinning up then stopping makes me think there is a short somewhere. Make sure all motherboard standoffs are installed and secure with screws, and make sure your 4- or 6-pin CPU, and video card power connectors (if applicable) are seated properly.

It might help if you tell us more about you components (especially the model if your power supply).
