PC wont power up with harddrive in

I have seen rigs that would not power on with a bad hd or optical drive installed. Have seen 2 different times when drives went bad like this in someone's rig during a lightning storm. MB, cpu and ram all survived, but drives, modems, and a sound card fried. Rigs would not start with any of the bad parts connected.

Yeah I think Jack has it right. I work in IT and have seen this many times. Hope you registered the drive with WD and it's still under warranty cuz I think you have a dead drive.
