hmmmm....

well, I left my apartment last wednesday for thanksgiving, and my computer was perfect...

now, it won't turn on. at all. wtf????

it's not the power supply. I just tried a few. Has anyone else experienced this before?

Funny thing is, it was running perfectly last wednesday, and I just got done playing Deus EX when I decided I'll turn it off for the weekend and give it a break. Well, I come back today, and the damned thing won't turn on. What might have happened. Any ideas?

I'm hoping it's just a matter of the front panel switch not working. I'll try another one tomorrow, but if it still won't power on, perhaps it's a mobo problem? I can't imagine it would be...mobo is getting power alright.

this is driving me nuts. Any suggestions or anecdotes would be nice....

first off, try some obvious things before taking the box apart. Check the fuse in the power cable feeding the PC, and maybe the the extension cord to that power lead if you have one...

next would be to check the inside of the system. has the CPU fan failed? some mobos won't boot unless they detect fan activity. After that it will be a case of stripping the system down to the very basics and working from there...

I've done the obvious and ruled out the PSU and cable as the culprit. I couldn't tell you whether the CPU fan has failed or not, since the thing won't turn on at all!

The mobo does show that it's getting juice. The power switch is not the problem.

I tried running it on just the memory and cpu, but it will NOT TURN ON! I do remember this happened to me before (on a different system though), but the culprit was a poorly re-installed power switch (i.e. I forgot to install it...d'oh!). I'm a bit baffled. I'll leave it off with no juice for a few days and come back, unless I (or any of you!) can figure out what the matter is :)

good thing I have a powerbook too....haha!

bump

I tried leaving the power off overnight (turned of the PSU and removed the power cable) to maybe discharge whatever juice is left. No change, still won't turn on.

maybe I'll leave it off for the week and try again this weekend.
