PC won't get past setup screen

My new computer is having troubles. It's worked before, for about two days, and now when I try to boot up, it shows me the splash screen and I can get into the BIOS. Everything seemsto POST fine. But, after the setup screen it tries to boot to the HD or DVD it just shows a blank screen. When I power off the computer, it takes just a quick punch of the power button instead of holding it down for 5 seconds. Both of the drives are IDE, not SATA. I've cleared the cmos, but I don't know what else to do.
