Second Jack's suggestion. I have a system that has three identical boot drives - but only one is ever ON at a time. There is a USB data drive (external) common to all three boot drives. When I switch drives, I must turn off the external drive for the first boot. As soon as Windows starts loading, I turn it on. Subsequent boots all behave normally, and I can leave the extyernal drive ON.
I have the correct sequence set in boot order in BIOS, but for some reason, the system tries to boot from the external if on for the first boot. I just go with the flow and do it "its" way.
