PC won't appear on the network

I just got a new Dell Inspiron 8600 notebook and want to set it up on a wireless network with my PC. I've got the network up and running, but I can't get my PC to show up in My Network Places. I can see everything I'm sharing on the laptop, and can access those files......but I can't see or access any files on my PC through the laptop. So in short, my laptop can communicate with my PC, but my PC won't communicate with the laptop. This means I can't share printers or anything, even though I have told windows to share them on the network.

Any thoughts?

Are the Network names the same?

How is your windows firewall setup ( assumong your using Xp SP2 on each.

Are they on the same subnet?

Rebel, welcome to the wide, wonderful, inconsistant world of TCP/IP networking. Sometimes you see it, sometimes you don't. I got fed up with this nonsense and followed the instructions on Jack's Site and started using NetBEUI for my network sharing. Never had a problem since. Next time your connection "disappears", I recommend switcing.

Oh wow... someone promoting NetBEUI as a good replacement for TCP/IP.

Do you troubleshoot by fondling chicken entrails and drawing mystical vodoo tattoos on yourself in charcoal ... just waiting for that solution to appear in a vision?

Actually, no I don't. I find an easy, reliable, always working solution and get on with my life. Which it sounds like Rebel would like to do also.

And this solution bothers you.....how?
