My mother's PC recently (and inexplicably) stopped connecting to her dial-up connection to Earthlink. When you try to connect it says
"Earthlink has detected that you computer does not have the following component(s) required to connect to the Internet.
-Remote Network Access (Dial-up Networking)
-Network Interface Card or Dial-up Adapter
-TCP/IP protocol
Do you want to install them now?"
If you say yes it asks for the Earthlink CD, but once it gets that it says it can't find SetupX.dll, then it requires you to restart the computer.
I've tried using the Windows Dial-up program to connect, but although I can connect and authenticate I am given no defualt gateway and my subnet is 255.255.255.255, so it won't connect to the internet. The computer can connect to the internet if I put in a network card and connect it to my broadband router, so it seems that its the connection, not the computer thats preventing me from accessing the internet.
Does anyone have any ideas what might be the problem here?
Thanks.
